Native Trees

Serviceberry (Amelanchier sp.) is a small Maryland native tree or large shrub that is suitable for home gardens. It flowers in early spring, bears edible fruits, and provides great fall color.

White oak (Quercus alba), Maryland's state tree, is highly valuable to a variety of native wildlife.

The purpose of the Mulch Education Project is for Master Gardeners to develop educational materials, write articles, offer presentations and demonstrations to educate the public about mulching best practices.  The project will also provide information about techniques to mitigate the damage to trees caused by improper mulching.

Green hawthorn is a Maryland native tree with showy flowers and berries. The 'Winter King' cultivar is adaptable to a variety of gardens and urban areas.
